SC Johnson Professional celebrates Global Handwashing Day, which promotes the benefits of practicing good hand hygiene habits. To increase awareness to the public on proper handwashing techniques and understanding the importance of handwashing, SC Johnson Professional shares the following hand hygiene tips.
1. Follow a Targeted Hygiene Program
Key times to wash your hands include after coughing or sneezing, after using the restroom, before cooking, eating and drinking, after using public transportation and especially when sharing common areas with people who are sick.
2. Learn Proper Hand Hygiene Techniques
If you are skipping out on basic hand hygiene or washing your hands incorrectly, germs may linger. To properly wash your hands, run them under water, then lather with soap and scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds, followed by rinsing the soap off of your hands and drying them with a clean towel or air dry them.
If soap and water are not available, using hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol is an alternative when hands are not visibly dirty. It’s a good idea to incorporate both hand washing and using hand sanitizer into your hand hygiene practice.
3. Communicate Hand Hygiene at Your Facility
Promoting frequent handwashing in your facility through videos, posters or newsletters can help encourage a safe environment that reduces the spread of germs. Another option to communicate your facility values hand washing includes having hand hygiene supplies in facility restrooms, like hand soap, paper towels and door tissue, always stocked and in good working condition.
