On Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Noon EST, SEIU Local 1 janitorial workers and the Northeast Ohio Worker Center will host the One Cleveland Forum where Clevelanders will come together to discuss the city's most pressing issues — including upcoming contract negotiations that impact 700 SEIU Local 1 janitorial workers. The vast majority of Local 1 janitors in Cleveland are primarily Black, Latinx, immigrant, and female, and every day risk their own health and safety to ensure the safety and cleanliness of Downtown Cleveland's most prominent buildings.
SEIU bargaining begins this spring where workers will fight for wages that keep up with inflation, strong benefits that allow working families to plan for the future, and job training that keeps janitors safe in the workplace. Local 1 janitors have played an essential role in revitalizing downtown, keeping our city clean and safe, and ensuring it lives up to its million-dollar experience for all who live, work, play, and thrive in Cleveland — regardless of race, income, or neighborhood.
This forum will serve as a space for collaboration on how workers can truly have a voice at the table in their workplaces, in their communities and their county.
