Green hire

According to a report by the U.S. Department of Labor, job openings significantly declined this past summer, and layoffs increased. Despite this decline, the green job sector remains not only resilient, but it’s also growing fast.

A recent study by LinkedIn defines green jobs as jobs centered on sustainability. They are becoming increasingly in demand for all types of businesses and organizations due to the escalating impacts of climate change. These job opportunities are also on the upswing because private investors, investment firms, and banks are increasingly asking potential partners for sustainability data about their organizations.

Sustainability data indicates, among other things, the steps an organization is taking to mitigate environmental risks.

Steve Ashkin, CEO of Green2Sustainable, emphasized the significance of green jobs, stating that "they are no longer just a niche sector but are essential for businesses in all industry sectors."

Green2Sustainable provides online tools to assist small and large organizations in gathering and analyzing their sustainability-related data.

The LinkedIn study also highlighted the growing demand for green talent, indicating that:

  • The green talent pool needs to double by 2050 to keep pace with projected job demand.
  • Global demand for green talent grew twice as quickly as supply between 2023 and 2024.
  • In the U.S., the demand for green workers has increased by 11.6 percent in the past two years.
  • Job seekers with green skills and titles will see a 54.6 percent greater hiring rate than the overall workforce.

Adds Ashkin, "At Green2Sustainable, we have seen a marked increase in the need for workers with green and sustainable skills. This reflects the growing emphasis on sustainability among businesses and business leaders. They need and depend on reliable data to facilitate their sustainability transition."
