The immigration bill that was originally introduced on earlier this year went to the U.S. Senate yesterday for debate and a vote. According to feedback from The John Birch Society, the massive immigration reform will likely be debated and voted on at an incredibly accelerated pace in the Senate.
According to the article, the White House also supports the bill, saying "President Bush has openly called for amnesty-like provisions by demanding a workable guest worker program and a path to citizenship for the estimated 10-12 million illegal immigrants who are currently residing within the United States."
In recent weeks, Congress has commented that they will do what is needed to "send President Bush an immigration reform package before the 2008 Presidential Campaigns go into full swing." To fulfill this promise, an agreement will need to be reached soon.
