According to reports from the Houston Chronicle, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has targeted 1,000 or more Aramark employees who work at the University of Houston, University of St. Thomas, George R. Brown Convention Center and Reliant Park in an effort to rally in support of higher wages and improved health insurance. Currently, workers earn an average of $6.30 an hour.

The rally is part of a nationwide effort. SEIU officials along with the union Unite Here have planned organizing drives against Aramark in nine other cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
