4M Building Solutions has expanded its Midwest and Southeast operations with an acquisition.
Tim M. Murch, CBSE, 4M CEO and managing partner, announced the company has acquired SG360, based in Overland Park, KS., and operating in 12 Midwest and Southeast states. Five states—Oklahoma, Virginia, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina—are new markets for 4M and bring the company’s footprint to 26 US states, primarily in the Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Led by President and CEO David Harvey, SG360 will be integrated into the 4M Building Solutions brand, bringing 1,200 Team Members and a customer portfolio that includes 708 job sites and daily cleaning of more than 30 million square feet of space.
"David Harvey and I have known and respected each other for many years, as industry colleagues and occasionally as competitors, during which time we witnessed first-hand the stellar company he has built,” says Murch.
SG360's roots were planted in 1990 in Kansas City, Mo. Harvey, SG360's president and CEO, purchased the business in 2011 when it was generating about $1 million in annual revenue. From 2014 to 2018, the company grew through additional acquisitions in the Kansas City area, Arkansas, and Florida, strengthening its Midwest presence and building up an industry-recognized stronghold in the Southeast.
“This marks a new chapter in our journey, where we can combine our strengths and expertise to elevate the industry standard,” says Harvey. “I’m incredibly proud of SG360's remarkable growth and impact, and I’m confident that by joining forces with 4M, we can continue this trajectory, fostering greater opportunities for our Team Members and delivering unparalleled service to our valued customers.”
SG360 provides commercial cleaning and janitorial services to airports, shopping centers, and banks; manufacturing and logistics facilities; medical facilities; and special-use facilities such as museums, sporting arenas, and performing arts centers. It has also developed a special niche in education from daycare through K-12 to colleges and universities. The company now operates in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Northern Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Nearly all SG360’s operations will migrate immediately to the 4M Building Solutions brand. For strategic branding purposes, 4M will continue operations under the SG360 brand in Arkansas, Northern Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
The company also operates a division in Tampa, Fla. called SG360 EBS, which it purchased in 2018. EBS specializes in window cleaning, waterproofing and caulking, pressure washing, and disinfection services. 4M will own and operate that division under the brand EBS.
Harvey will assume the role of chief strategy officer within 4M and become an investor and equity holder with 4M Building Holdings, the acquisition platform established by O2 Investment Partners, a Michigan-based private equity firm, and 4M in January 2023.
The SG360 acquisition is the second this year for 4M, following a March buy of Connecticut-based Horizon Services. It’s the fifth acquisition since the company secured its January 2023 growth investment from O2 Investment Partners. Those 2023 acquisitions include Buttweiler Environmental (BWE) in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in December; LCS Facility Group in Poughkeepsie, New York, in October; and Capital Services in Columbus, Ohio, in February.
"As we celebrate our 32nd acquisition since our inception in 1978 and this milestone of operations in more than half of U.S. states, we're reminded that our journey has always been guided by a commitment to quality and seizing strategic opportunities,” says Murch. “It's never about the sheer number of acquisitions but rather the caliber and alignment of each partnership. We take pride in being the acquirer of choice, collaborating with businesses that share our values of fostering a strong culture, prioritizing customer satisfaction, and striving for excellence in our industry."
