The American Cleaning Institute said it will review the latest iteration of California's proposed safer products regulations, but comments on previous revisions pointed out numerous shortcomings.
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control released the latest version of the Safer Consumer Product regulations, which would put in place rules affecting thousands of products.
"ACI and its members are dedicated to improving health and the quality of life through sustainable cleaning products and practices," said Dr. Paul DeLeo, ACI Senior Director of Environmental Safety. "We have been actively engaged in the development of the California Green Chemistry Initiative over the past five years. ACI and our members provided extensive input through meetings with DTSC, seminars and written comments pointing the way to make these regulations effective, efficient and workable.
"We're concerned that little has been done to address the scientific validity of the proposed regulation and the excessive burden it would place upon the economy, while at the same time offering little in the way of benefits to consumers."
He continues, "It is critical that the final rules be manageable and workable for industry, consumers and regulators alike."
