Female leader speaking at company convention

A new strategic plan approved by the American Cleaning Institute’s (ACI) board of directors will allow the association to be more agile and forward thinking, according to a presentation made by its president and CEO, Melissa Hockstad.

The four pillars of the plan (business, science, communication and sustainability) were presented during Hockstad’s “State of the Association” address at the 2020 ACI Annual Meeting & Industry Convention.

“Our new strategic plan will strengthen ACI’s focus with where we want to win and where we can have maximum impacts for our member companies,” says Hockstad.

The first pillar, business, will drive the company to care for impactful relationships that speed up the growth and innovation of the cleaning products industry, according to Hockstad. She says the second pillar will focus on using science to drive informed dialogue and decision making.

“We want to increase the availability of and access to human and environmental safety information for cleaning product ingredients,” says Hockstad. “ACI is committed to seeking alignment across our industry and the stakeholder community on interpreting cleaning product safety information to drive common sense decision-making by policymakers.”

For its sustainability initiative, ACI hopes to unite its supply chain in increasing transparency, reducing emissions and valuing nature.

“Our fourth pillar centers on communications,” says Hockstad. “Now more than ever, we intend to proactively engage stakeholders to increase understanding, knowledge and trust of our industry.”

Hockstad says that ACI has important milestones to achieve and that the association will move swiftly and nimbly to confront the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

“ACI knows that we can only succeed through the commitment and active engagement of our member companies,” says Hockstad. “With ACI’s ongoing transformation, we cannot and will not be satisfied with business as usual.

More than 1,000 attendees took part in the 2020 ACI Convention, which is one of the global cleaning product supply chain’s top business-to-business events.
