The BICSc Annual Awards Dinner & Golf Day
The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) has been recognised for leading cleaning industry standards for over 53 years. This year the BICSc Annual Awards Dinner and Golf day rolled out the red carpet for a Hollywood themed ‘sell out’ event to recognise and reward those that have excelled in maintaining high standards via training and assessment across the industry.
The BICSc Annual Awards took place on the 18th of September 2014 at the Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club, Birmingham. In the morning, BICSc hosted their Annual Golf Day on the Arden Championship Golf Course (Sponsored by BICSc Council Member Bob Vincent’s organisation, LCC Support Services).
The Awards celebrations started later in the day. Guests were greeted by Hollywood themed walk about characters at the drinks reception (Sponsored by AsepTech); characters included a human awards statue and an elegant Marilyn Monroe character handing refreshments to guests from her white feathery table dress. This year the cocktail sponsors Katrin also provided an interesting twist to the evening by offering guests the opportunity to sample their branded cocktails ‘The Katrin Martini’ and ‘The Katrin Mock Mojito’.
The Annual Awards Ceremony followed shortly afterwards with inspired speeches from CEO of BICSc Stan Atkins and the Chairman of the Institute Bill McMillan. One of the key messages was furthering the dignity of the cleaning operative. ‘A cleaner is something that you clean a table with, the person participating in the act of cleaning, is known as a cleaning operative.’ Stan Atkins later stated that ‘Anybody can clean, but only people that have been trained correctly have the ability to clean properly’.
The evening then celebrated achievements of the award winners of 2014 by presenting various plaques and trophies. A banquet dinner followed shortly afterwards, along with the Chairman’s Charity raffle and entertainment from Lisa Martin and the Vegas Show girls.
The Chairman’s Charity Raffle and Rubbermaid Auction
The Chairman’s Charity this year was St Margaret of Scotland Hospice, selected by the current Chairman Bill McMillan. For over 60 years this hospice has offered compassion, dedicated commitment and excellent care to patients with advanced life-limiting illnesses and also to the older person with complex medical and nursing needs. The raffle raised nearly £1000 on the night with winners selecting from a range of prizes donated by generous companies including; The Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club, The Bees Nees Florist, Vileda Professional and Rubbermaid.
Alongside this, Stan Atkins (BICSc) and generous sponsor Paul Kelly (Rubbermaid Commercial Products) hosted a charity auction for a Rubbermaid ‘FM Bundle Pack’ containing a MegaBrute Waste Collector, Clean Water System, Starter pack, Safety Mobile Barrier, 2 Stream Starter Packs (Recycling), an AutoFoam Dispenser, and Soap refill (Washroom) and finally some Foodservice Premium scales. The auction raised an additional £550 and was won by Doug Cooke, CEO of Principle Cleaning Services. In total a considerable sum of over £1500 was collected for the charity. Thank you to everyone that generously donated on the evening.
