Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI) recently announced the winner of the annual Stephen H. Swigart Scholarship for Higher Education. Sponsored by Spartan Chemical, this honor provides higher education opportunities for the families of building service contractors (BSC) when the often-exorbitant cost of tuition and housing comes into play. The award is named after Steve Swigart, an industry veteran who has spent over 50 years with Spartan Chemical holding several key leadership positions during his tenure.

The 2022 recipient is Anthony Jerome Echols Jr., a student at Georgia State University currently in his second year pursuing Bachelor and Masters degrees in Sports Management and Administration. Echols enjoys the thrill of competition and has been a student athlete for all his years in school, ranging from football and soccer to basketball and swimming.

Upon graduating Echols aims to star this own basketball training business through his relationship with the NBA-team Atlanta Hawks. By providing youth with an opportunity to hone their basketball skills, he hopes to inspire them to recognize their full potential both on and off the court.

To learn more about Echols and his story, BSCAI’s Lauren Liacouras sat down with the award recipient to discuss his motivation for applying for the scholarship, the gratitude he felt winning it, and the positive impact the funds will have toward pursuing his goals. Read on that here
