Yunker Industries, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, is a printing and graphics manufacturer dedicated to protecting the environment through a focus on sustainability.

To demonstrate its environmental responsibility, Yunker earned certification from the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) in 2017.

"Having become SGP certified, we decided to invest in the SGP Impact Tracker when it became available in 2018,” says Nadine Seitz, marketing manager for Yunker. “We wanted to consolidate all our information so we could easily monitor and measure our overall energy consumption.”

The SPG Impact Tracker is powered by technology developed by Sustainability Dashboard Tools. The dashboard system helps organizations measure, monitor, and reduce consumption of water, fuel, electricity, and other metrics. The result is not only good for the environment, but significant cost savings for users.

Once Seitz, and her team started using the SGP Impact Tracker, something unexpected happened. The system noticed a significant spike in gas consumption and related costs during the summer months. After several calls with the gas company, it was discovered that Yunker had been overcharged by nearly $6,500.

“If it wasn’t for the SGP Impact Tracker and the dashboard, I don't believe this error would have [ever] been caught. This sort of billing error could have happened to any organization.”

The dashboard also includes an engagement display system. Essentially, this system takes raw data such as fuel, energy, and water consumption, and turns it into real life terms, helping make it the information far more understandable. The technology also helps Yunker “tell their sustainability story” and enables them to share their efforts with staff, vendors, and their customers.

The dashboard is also in use in the professional cleaning industry.  In partnership with ISSA, several jan/san distributors are taking advantage of the technology. They have reported not only consumption reduction, but once again, significant cost savings using the dashboard.
