In response to the rapidly-growing Delta variant of COVID-19, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated their guidance for fully-vaccinated people as of July 27.

Key takeaways from the updated guidance include:

• The recommendation that fully-vaccinated people still wear masks in indoor public settings where high areas of cases and COVID-19 transmission are present.

• In situations where fully vaccinated people are immunocompromised — or are around someone who is immunocompromised and at higher risk — wearing a mask is recommended regardless of the level of transmission in the area.

• Vaccinated people who have been exposed to suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases should be tested within 3-5 days. Additionally, a mask should be worn in public indoor settings for 14 days or until a negative test result is received.

• For indoor schools of all levels, indoor masking is a universal recommendation for students, staff, teachers and visitors whether or not they are vaccinated.

These recommendations, along with mandates, are always subject to change so facility cleaning mangers, BSCs and distributors alike should keep up with CDC updates on a regular basis.
