Group of school kids reading for education

In early August, Healthy Schools Campaign (HSC) welcomed more than 275 guests, representing Chicago’s civic, business, education, healthcare, philanthropic, school and grassroots communities to their annual Change for Good Luncheon. This year, the event commemorated 15 years of Healthy Schools Campaign making schools healthier places where all children can learn and thrive — in Chicago and across the country.

Dr. Julie Morita, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health, gave the keynote address and talked about the importance of breaking down silos and working together for student health. The program also featured a student, parent and principal talking about how our work has impacted their lives and how they have taken leadership roles in their schools and communities.

Over the last 15 years, HSC has hit many milestones. These range from launching their parent organizing work more than a decade ago to beginning to support states across the country as they expand school health services last year.

"While we continue our strong on-the-ground programs in Chicago, we've also expanded our national work," says Rochelle Davis, president and CEO of Healthy Schools Campaign. "All of this work comes back to our central belief that every child deserves to learn and thrive. We’re working toward a future where that’s true. We’ve come a long way in our first 15 years, and I’m looking forward to the progress we’ll make together over the next 15."
