What might have started as an exciting celebration, the classic ribbon-cutting ceremony has become a bit of a stale concept. Sure, the celebration might feel a bit significant at the opening of some ginormous sports stadium, towering skyscraper or life-changing public school facility, but often a ribbon-cutting event is quite trite. (Does the novelty scissors really need to be busted out for the opening of the third fast food restaurant on a single city block?)

Instead of holding just another opening ceremony for its newest facility, the city of Alexandria, Minnesota held a ribbon-cutting event that the jan/san industry can respect.

New public restrooms at Alexandria’s Big Ole Central Park were opened after an official cutting of toilet paper, reports Voice of Alexandria. What ply the toilet was exactly has not been disclosed.
