Don Aslett

The cleaning industry mourns the death of Donald “Don” Andrew Aslett. At the age of 89, Aslett passed away peacefully in his apartment at his Museum of Clean in Pocatello, Idaho on Thursday, August 21, 2024. He had been valiantly fighting Multiple Myeloma and Parkinson’s over the past several years and, most recently, a stroke. His health concerns did not stop him from greeting and giving museum tours, which he continued until just a few weeks before his passing.

Don is fondly remembered for his strong work ethic and his unwavering passion for the cleaning industry. He started his famed cleaning business, Varsity Contractors, during his college years, initiating a lifetime of entrepreneurship. His love for cleaning prompted him to share his professional cleaning expertise in creative ways, which resulted in him becoming a sought-after expert. He was a guest on Good Morning America, the Today show, Regis, and Oprah. He wrote 40 best-selling books and did presentations around the globe. He was known as the “Latrine King,” and helped those he inspired to save millions of hours in housework. In the professional cleaning industry, he was an icon, speaking and training thousands. He was best known for championing the janitor: many still remember him carrying his toilet suitcase around the airport as a proud toilet cleaner.

His final legacy project is his Museum of Clean housed in a beautiful historic building that he renovated in Pocatello, Idaho. The museum has become an iconic Pocatello landmark and attracts visitors from across the globe. The museum has become a special place for the community; many have had the unforgettable experience of getting a tour from Don that included him giving them a signed book.

In addition to his professional life, Don was a family man. He was married to his wife Barbara for 67 years and fathered six children. He was very active in the church, youth sports and was recognized with many scout commendations. He also loved bringing his grandkids to his Kauai property where he once worked as a missionary.
