The Connecticut House of Representatives has passed a bill requiring state school systems to use green cleaning products.
Opponents voiced fears that green cleaning products will cost schools more money, and as an unfunded mandate, will cause unnecessary financial stress during a time when schools are already strapped for cash. They also say schools should be able to decide for themselves what products are best for facilities.
But supporters argue that prices for green cleaning products are competitive with those of traditional cleaning chemicals.
The bill, which passed 124-19 on Wednesday, now moves to the Senate.
