According to CHML Radio, it seems public schools in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada can be a risky place to work.
A new report shows that 23 percent of custodians were injured on the job in the past school year, higher than the average of 16 percent at comparable school boards.
The president of the local union representing the custodians said that most of the injuries are the result of cutbacks on cleaning staff at the schools. Some experts are also blaming older schools and older equipment. But, the school board's head of human resources says most of the injuries are due to slips and falls.
One board member said the high rate reflects the heightened awareness of reporting injuries, but a task force should be implemented to find the root cause of those injuries.
