The custodial staff at the University of Wisconsin (UW) in Madison has made the decision to hire students to help deal with the record-setting amount of snow that has fallen this winter and ice that has developed as a result of the rollercoaster temperatures. The extra workers will hopefully provide some relief for the warn-out grounds crew.
In past years, the university has hired students to help remove snow on an on-call basis. The program has been successful because in storms, it is often easier for students who live within walking distance to get to work, than employees who have a difficult time commuting to campus during poor driving conditions.
According to reports in The Badger Herald, staff from other areas of the university have also been asked to help with snow, but it has been difficult keeping up with the frequent storms that drop record snow.
