Sealed Air’s Diversey Care division announced that it won two 2016 Institute of Packaging Professionals’ (IoPP) AmeriStar awards for its Pro Series Smart Mix ProTM/MC, the industry’s first dilution control system in a pouch designed for sanitation and janitorial applications. The product placed first in the “Industrial / Commercial” category and won the 2016 Sustainable Packaging Award.
AmeriStar awards honor innovative packaging contributions that deliver benefits such as sustainability savings and better functionality for users. The Sustainable Packaging Award is given to the AmeriStar category winner that receives the highest scores for reducing packaging’s impact on the environment.
“Clever and purposeful packaging was at the heart of the design process for Smart Mix Pro,” said Sergio Pupkin, Vice President, Global Marketing, Diversey Care. “We created this product to make chemical dilution easier, safer and more sustainable. To win two AmeriStar awards is a testament to the many advantages that Smart Mix Pro offers.”
Smart Mix Pro is a convenient, cost-effective and space-saving alternative for ready-to-use (RTU) spray bottles. A case of Smart Mix Pro contains two pouches and prepares eight 1-quart RTU bottles of cleaning solution, reducing storage requirements by 80 percent. Cleaners simply add one gallon of water to the main pouch, close the cap and squeeze the inner pouch to release the pre-measured dose of concentrated chemical into the water. This creates a cleaning solution that is ready to use in seconds.
Smart Mix Pro’s slim and secure pouch design takes up less storage space and ensures that employees won’t have direct contact with concentrated solutions. The lightweight and compact packaging reduces plastic waste by more than 60 percent compared to RTU products and cuts transportation costs and energy consumption. It also reduces costs by allowing customers to purchase portable concentrates in platforms that are sized for their needs.
The 2016 AmeriStar winning innovations will be on display during Pack Expo in Chicago, Nov. 6-9, 2016.
