EnerSys, the global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial applications, recently received EE rating classification from UL on its NexSys batteries for powered industrial trucks.
The NexSys battery pack for class III lift truck applications has been specifically designed to meet UL requirements. “Typically the electrical components of a battery in class III lift trucks are exposed,” said Chuck Bartlett, engineering manager at EnerSys. “The NexSys EE battery pack is completely enclosed for use in such applications where flammable materials are stored, including hair spray, paints and cleaning chemicals, just to name a few.”
UL standards require that EE rated trucks protect against inherent fire hazards and are provided with additional safeguards to the electrical system to prevent emission of hazardous sparks and limit surface temperatures. Most importantly, the electric motors and all other electrical equipment must be completely enclosed.
To further enhance the EE rated product, EnerSys has incorporated an onboard charger into the battery pack to provide plug-in anywhere convenience, enabling opportunity charging while optimizing battery life.
“EnerSys takes an innovative systems approach to motive power applications, always finding intelligent ways to boost efficiency and productivity,” explains Chad Uplinger, general manager, specialty markets at EnerSys. “The NexSys battery and charger system enables full recharging in less than five hours and eliminates downtime, acid exposure as well as the need for watering. Now with EE rating classification, we’re able to expand and offer this advanced technology into additional class 3 truck applications.”
NexSys batteries by EnerSys are manufactured with Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology, using only the highest purity lead in the positive and negative plates and a very high purity sulfuric acid to minimize the potential risk of corrosion and sulfation common to conventional lead acid batteries. This design enables more plates to fit in the battery, providing more power in 30 percent less space than conventional lead acid batteries. Virtually maintenance-free, they feature Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) separators that provide high electrolyte absorption and stability to help enhance cyclic capability.
