Clean-up crews are still busy at work after a chemical plant fire at Warsaw Chemical Company on Friday, Feb. 6. According to news from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the fire was followed by an explosion that caused tanks to rupture and chemicals — mostly menthol — to leak into storm drains and local lakes.

Eight people were treated at a local hospital for chemical inhalation and skin irritation and one plant employee was treated for burns on his hands. According to Environmental Remediation Services personnel, no fish or wildlife have been affected.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and will be until the chemicals can be cleaned from the area.
