The General Services Administration released a request for quotes for two strategic sourcing contracts for janitorial and maintenance supplies, according to reports from Federal Times.

Agencies spend about $1.7 billion every year on those supplies, and by using strategic sourcing, agencies can save about $24 million in the first year and up to $50 million in future years, according to GSA.

The quotations are due Nov. 12, according to the agency.

The supplies will be offered under blanket purchase agreements that will help encourage small business participation, according to GSA. The new offerings are part of an effort by GSA to help develop and launch 10 strategic sourcing solutions by the end of fiscal 2014.

“The consolidation of purchasing under programs such as these will help save taxpayer dollars and drive necessary spending on these type of products to our small business partners, making a real positive impact for government agency budgets and improving the bottom line for selected small businesses and suppliers,” Federal Acquisition Service commissioner Tom Sharpe said in an announcement.
