The Healthy Facilities Institute has added Chris Jack and Carey Mitchell to its advisory board.
Chris Jack is the vice president, certification and operations, of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, where he manages key staff handling AH&LEI’s line-level, supervisory, management, executive, educator and supplier-related hospitality certifications. He works with the AH&LEI Certification Commission to help ensure the quality and relevance of EI programs.
A veteran within AH&LEI’s professional certification department, Jack has been involved in many facets of education, curriculum, and certification development, including overseeing exam creation, maintaining and upgrading tests, creation and delivery of online assessment, and professional certification exams for industry clients. He also serves as vice president of operations, overseeing and supporting daily operation of all departments, staff, and processes at EI’s Lansing, Mich. facility, with a particular focus on fulfillment operations, online product development, assessment systems, and customer service efforts.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin.
Carey Mitchell joined Shaw Industries in 1979 as director of technical services. He retired from Shaw Industries at the end of 2013, and started a consulting company, CRMitchell, LLC. Mitchell chaired the Carpet and Rug Institute’s (CRI’s) Technical Committee several times, totaling 12 years. He chaired CRI’s Cleaning and Maintenance Committee, as well as the C&M Issues Management Team, a cross-functional strategy team.
Mitchell was also an originator of CRI’s Seal of Approval (SOA) program, which developed test methods, set standards and provides certification for chemicals and equipment that demonstrate superior performance. Much of this work was conducted using technology developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
He has been involved in various committees of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, the American Society for Testing and Materials, and several others. He also serves on the Technical Advisory Board to the Canadian government for flooring issues, as well as the Technical Advisory Board to the US Textile Research Consortium, a group of universities receiving federal funding for textile research.
Mitchell has authored or co-authored numerous technical publications and peer-reviewed research papers. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Cleaning and Restoration Technicians, a major association involved in carpet cleaning and water damage restoration. He serves on a Technical Advisory Committee and Certification Council of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), an independent training and certification body.
Mitchell has bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and Business Administration from the University of North Georgia.
