The Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI) has added three new advisory board members: Scot Case, Director, Markets Development, UL Environment, Inc.; Peter J. Censky, Executive Director, non-profit Water Quality Association (WQA); and Andrew J. Streifel, Department of Environmental Health & Safety, University of Minnesota.
 
Scot Case is an internationally recognized expert with more than 17 years of professional experience in sustainable business strategy development, responsible purchasing, green supply chains, and environmental marketing. As Director of Markets Development for UL Environment, Scot helps connect retailers and consumers seeking environmentally and socially responsible products with the manufacturers supplying them.
 
Scot recently testified before the U.S. Congress on green marketing issues and has consulted with a variety of organizations around the world including the White House Office of the Federal Environmental Executive; Wal-Mart and its suppliers; the World Bank; the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; the Japanese Green Purchasing Network; government agencies in the Philippines, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Australia; the National Institute of Governmental Purchasers; National Association of State Purchasing Officials; and dozens of U.S. Federal agencies and state and local governments.
 
Scot has delivered more than 400 keynote speeches, full-day trainings, and presentations throughout the United States and abroad to audiences of up to 1,000 people. He has published more than four dozen articles, case studies, and book chapters. As a consultant to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, he wrote an extensive series of reports documenting the growing environmental purchasing movement. Scot is a key contributor to the Sins of Greenwashing studies, which continue to receive considerable media attention including interviews with him on NPR, Good Morning America, CNN, The New York Times, TIME, Newsweek, Business Week, and many others. He was also featured in a recent Emmy-award winning documentary on green purchasing.
 
In 2002, Scot helped launch the North American Green Purchasing Initiative (NAGPI), a network of organizations working to accelerate the demand for safer, more environmentally preferable products. In 2005, he launched the Responsible Purchasing Network, a group of influential purchasers using their purchasing power to buy better goods and services. He is also a founding board member of the International Green Purchasing Network.
 
Scot Case earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Virginia Tech.
 
Peter J. Censky is the Executive Director of the non-profit Water Quality Association (WQA), and has served in this role since 1987.  WQA is an international trade association of more than 2,500 member companies worldwide who manufacture and sell point-of-use (POU) and point-of-entry (POE) water treatment equipment.
 
Censky has an extensive background in coordinating policy and legal strategies.  He previously served as vice president of the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, an association of over 100 hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, where he was in charge of Government Relations.
 
Prior to that Censky was Director of the Division of Business Services within the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs.  His Division was responsible for attracting businesses to Illinois and assisting existing businesses in dealing with government agencies, finding financing, and developing new markets.  Earlier he had been Special Assistant to Governor James Thompson for Small Business Affairs.  Censky had also worked as a lobbyist for the Illinois Retail Merchants Association.
 
Censky is a member of the Board of Directors of Aqua Europa, a European Trade Association headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.
 
Andrew J. Streifel is a Hospital Environment Specialist with the Department of Environmental Health & Safety at the University of Minnesota.  He is a registered Environmental Health Specialist in Minnesota.  He is currently serving on the Maintenance Committee for the SSPC 170: ASHRAE Standard for Ventilation of Health Care Facilities.
 
Mr. Streifel is also serving on the revision committee for the 2010 edition of the FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities.   He has served on this committee since 1994 and has participated in the development of the 1996, 2001, and 2006 & 2010 editions.
 
Mr. Streifel has served on the Special Project committee that authored the HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics. He was an author on ASHRAE published articles on Ventilation for the Protection of Immune Compromised Patients-1988, Construction Impact on Indoor Air Quality-1995 and Air Leakage Analysis of Special Ventilation Hospital Rooms-2008. Mr. Streifel has assisted the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology & School of Public Health as technical advisor on filtration, patient room airflow studies and particle management projects. He also serves on the National Air Duct Cleaners Association Standards Committee. In addition, he is an author in over 50 articles, published in the academic and professional journals, related to ventilation and water quality in health care.  Mr. Streifel was invited to join the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and has been an invited speaker to four SHEA annual meetings.
 
During work as a health care consultant, he has been involved in the investigation of over 60 clusters of infection related to hospital air quality. He has served as a consultant in over 400 hospitals worldwide on a variety of indoor air quality issues and water microbial contamination, and has investigated clusters of bacterial infections due to unsanitary clinical practice.  His current research interests involve sanitation validation and ventilation optimization without compromising safety in healthcare facilities.
