Harley-Davidson Hosts group of cleaning industry experts

On October 24, 2019, the inaugural Cleaning Summit Midwest was held at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. Organized by Contracting Profits magazine, Facility Cleaning Decisions magazine and CleanLink.com, this all-new Summit was created with the idea to deliver strong education and networking opportunities to commercial cleaning professionals in the Midwest, but its reach extended far beyond that. Facility cleaning managers, executive housekeepers and building service contractors (BSCs) gathered from across the country, eager to learn new strategies and solutions to implement into their everyday routines.

In addition to an array of cleaning professionals, a handful of manufacturers were also in attendance. Event sponsors, including gold sponsors PortionPac and PathoSans, and silver sponsor ACS Cleaning Products Group, mingled with attendees and contributed to educational discussions.

The Cleaning Summit’s agenda included four different educational seminars presented by two highly regarded consultants in the cleaning industry – Ben Walker, COO, ManageMen, Inc., and Heidi Wilcox, M.Sc., Owner, Wilcox EVS Solutions. Topics ranged from staff training tips, workloading and budget management, emerging cleaning technologies and top tips to surviving the flu season. Between sessions, attendees were able to interact and share their thoughts on the new information they’d learned, as well as share personal successes with their cleaning programs.

When asked what made him attend the inaugural Cleaning Summit, Greg Pastun, custodial services manager at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Kalamazoo, Michigan, had this to say: “I’m new to the industry. I took my job about a year ago, so I was looking to gather information and connect with some peers. I’m definitely enjoying the event. It’s been very informative.”

In addition to the strong education and networking, the Harley-Davidson Museum’s facility cleaning manager took attendees on an original tour of the facility. Cleaning Summit attendees learned about the history of this iconic manufacturer, as well as the cleaning challenges and hurdles to maintaining this very high-profile and high-traffic tourist destination.
