Hill & Markes, Amsterdam, New York, was once just a tiny operation that delivered ice cream and other sweets via horse and buggy. Today, the wholesale distributor of janitorial supplies, office supplies, and food service disposables does around $70 million in revenue while employing 170 people. It’s this type of success that has lead to some impressive accolades.
Hill & Markes was recently named the family business of the year by the Albany Business Review. The honor comes in a year of great change for the company. As the Business Review reports, Hill & Markes CEO Jason Packer was elevated from his COO position in January, so that he could take after his father, Neal, who is now chairman of the company’s board of directors. Neal serves on the board along with his wife, Andrea. Andrea’s brother, Jeffrey Finkle, is the company’s president.
