Grand piano keys

Sometimes, just a little bit of music can soothe the soul. For patients and employees at a hospital, that stress alleviation can be all the more appreciated. Such is the case at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, courtesy of some magnificent piano playing from a new custodian on staff.

As reported by Fox 29, Calvin Dingle — who is a father of two and works day shifts as the director of environmental services at Yardley Rehab — discovered a piano was at the hospital during his orientation last month. Upon seeing it, Dingle requested to play it immediately. Much to the surprise and joy of the patients and staff nearby, Dingle stole the show and has made it a regular part of his routine during his breaks on shift.

St. Mary Medical Center Housekeeping Manager Alyssa Page says Dingle’s presence has brought a significant boost to morale for patients ever since he began playing routinely. Dingle, who was inspired to play the piano by Jamie Foxx, bought a copy of “Music Composition for Dummies” which he used to self-teach on the piano. He’s naturally drawn to playing any piano he sees, and considers it one of his favorite hobbies when he’s not cleaning the medical center.
