Hospital Housekeepers In Georgia Finally Being Thanked

The housekeepers at Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside Hospital in Macon, Georgia are the hidden heroes at those facilities. They clean every patient's room twice a day, giving them a better chance at recovery, according to a recent story.

David Abrams, Coliseum Northside Hospital's housekeeping director, says the work housekeepers do is about more than cleaning patient rooms. These workers help to keep the work spaces of doctors and nurses safe. Even the floors are cleaned daily.

Work has changed quite a bit for the hospital's housekeepers since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the housekeepers, Katrina Burrell, says she's trying to "wipe down everything and sanitizer everything" each day. She cleans, disinfects and sanitizes objects high and low. Housekeepers are also being thanked along with doctors and nurses in the letters from patients. Abrams say the housekeepers are even being mentioned by name, which is a big upgrade from not being thanked for great, important work.
