The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) announced it is revising the ANSI/IICRC S500-2006 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration and the BSR-IICRC S100 Standard for Professional Textile Floorcovering Cleaning. The revised draft of S500 was available for the second round of public review from Dec. 6, 2013 – Jan. 20, 2014, and the revised draft of S100 was available for the first round of public review from Feb. 28 – April 14, 2014. Substantive changes made to both standards since the last public review are now available for public review and comment through Aug. 31, 2014.
ANSI/IICRC S500 provides a specific set of practical and procedural standards for water damage restoration. It does not provide a specific protocol for all water damage restoration projects; rather, it outlines the foundation for basic principles of proper restoration practices. ANSI/IICRC S500 does not include exhaustive performance characteristics or standards for the manufacture or installation of structural components, materials and contents (personal property).
BSR-IICRC S100 describes the procedures, methods and systems to be followed when performing professional commercial and residential textile floor covering (e.g., carpet and rugs) maintenance and cleaning. This Standard does not specifically address the protocols and procedures for restoration or remediation of contaminated textile floor coverings. No attempt is made to evaluate the strengths or weaknesses of individual cleaning methods or to compare or contract one method with another.
