The staff and students at Francisco Elementary School in Francisco, Indiana, want to give their hardworking janitor, Jeff Crecelius, a gold medal according to Crecelius' nomination for the Cintas Janitor of the Year award.
The school experienced the 2018 Olympics in style, thanks to Crecelius, who built a custom flag holder, torch and podium for a school-wide Olympic unit.
According to the nomination, he is always going above and beyond his custodial expectations — from brewing hot coffee in the mornings and handing out homemade lunches for faculty in the afternoon.
Crecelius also decorates the school halls and classrooms for the holidays and helps students learn how to tie their shoes. Over the last 10 years, he has found time to hand out small gifts to teachers “just because” or fix up sports equipment for the next big school game.
The Janitor of the Year Contest was created to draw attention to the everyday heroes that go above and beyond their job description to make schools a clean, healthy and fun learning environment. The 2018 Janitor of the Year winner will be determined by the number of votes and will receive a $5,000 cash prize along with $5,000 in products and services for his or her school from Cintas and Rubbermaid Commercial Products – not to mention bragging rights. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to each of the remaining nine finalists.
Voting for the contest ends on April 20. The janitor with the most votes will win. Those interested in voting can do so once a day, every day, until the April 20.
