Ian George Greig, former CEO of Daniels Associates, Inc., passed away quietly on July 4th, 2024. In a statement, the family said, "the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother was a tremendous loss for this close-knit family."
The cleaning industry is also feeling the loss. Greig was involved in the cleaning industry for over 35 years, during which time he was recognized on many occasions for outstanding service to the industry — Industry Service Award” from the Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI), and he was inducted into the Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) Hall of Fame in 2000.
Greig’s name and reputation are synonymous with change and innovation. Throughout his career he was at the forefront of bringing increased productivity to the industry, including the move to Day Cleaning, which changed the underlying philosophy of facilities management. He was also a popular keynote speaker at industry trade shows and meetings worldwide, including the World Federation of Building Service Contractors, BSCAI, and ISSA.
Of his speaking endeavors, the family commented that "Ian was a member of the CMI Hall of Fame and a consummate speaker, able to speak on any topic, anytime, anywhere. With his charming Australian accent, Ian was a hard act to follow!"
Greig founded Daniels Associates, Inc., in 1980, and provided tailor-made cleaning programs and solutions for Fortune 500 companies, major universities and other organizations with extensive and varied facilities. His early-career background in pharmacy and chemistry added dimension to his skills as a cleaning consultant, providing the tools necessary to consult with groups in Belgium, Ireland, Australia, England, Canada, Mexico, and Asia for Fortune 100 corporations such as Intel, Motorola, and Johnson & Johnson.
In addition to his speaking and consulting tasks, Greig was generous with his time and was frequently quoted in industry articles that would help educate hundreds of thousands of industry experts. Often an author himself, Greig, along with Bill Garland, co-authored the BOMA Cleaning Study, “Office Building Cleaning Operations in North America”, and also edited a later-published study, “Cleaning Makes Cents", which increased the awareness of cleaning operations in the commercial real estate industry.
In a statement, the family commented that "Ian made the industry better and more enjoyable by being Ian."
