According California State Senator Kevin DeLeon, hotel housekeepers have the highest rate of lower back injuries in the hotel industry and many blame oversized mattresses and repetitive motion as a result of changing sheets. That said, the senator has pushed for a mandate that would force hotels in California to switch from flat sheets to fitted alternatives.
Opponents of the bill argue that the switch would cost the hotel industry 30 to 50 million dollars, an expense that would ultimately make its way down to the consumer, say CBS47 reports.
The State Senate has already passed the bill, which will next make its way to the assembly.
