When the WBIR 10News team tested 20 common surfaces in office buildings for bacteria, the office coffee pot was at the top of the germy list, according to an article on the Becker's Hospital Review website.
The four items that yielded the highest bacterial content were:
• The break room sponge was found to carry the most bacteria, though the bacteria found was harmless
• The coffee pot handle displayed levels of bacteria second only to the kitchen sponge
• Restroom sink handles also were high scorers, with the sample of the handle in the men's bathroom carrying significantly more bacteria than the women's sample
• The television remote control also yielded a sample with high bacterial content
