PMI Puerto Rico has been named 2018 Franchise of the Year by Property Management Inc. (PMI), a property management and real estate services company. Every year PMI grants this award to a franchise that shows leadership and innovation while magnifying the PMI franchise model and PMI Puerto Rico, led by owner Miguel Hernandez, is the latest office to be recognized for its vision and service.

Just three months after PMI Puerto Rico opened for business in June 2017, Puerto Rico experienced the largest natural disaster it had ever seen when it was hit by hurricane Maria. Without power and water, the office was forced to close along with the rest of the island, but Hernandez was not deterred, and PMI Puerto Rico reopened its doors nearly four months later with a renewed passion for investing in the people of Puerto Rico.

Not one to shy away from challenges, Hernandez had chosen to start a business that offered a service that was not known of in Puerto Rico. This meant that before he could sell his services, he needed to educate potential clients and the public about what professional property management was and the benefits it offered. "There were no professional property management companies in Puerto Rico, and I knew from the beginning that for PMI Puerto Rico to market our services and excel in our industry we needed a team of great leaders with brokerage expertise," said Hernandez. "That's why we contracted a team of real estate experts early on."

Forming professional alliances has been a fundamental part of PMI Puerto Rico's business strategy. In March, a strategic alliance with Keller Williams Grand Homes made it possible to serve clients in a way that was previously not available. "I saw the value of joining forces with Keller Williams from the beginning, thanks to their leadership within the real estate business and passion for our community, I knew creating an alliance would allow both companies to provide better service to clients and grow stronger and faster." The partnership strengthens both companies and Puerto Rico's real estate market on the whole as Keller Williams can market property management paired with brokerage services.

As the people of Puerto Rico worked to recover from Hurricane Maria, Hernandez saw a need and structured a unique Rent-to-Own program that helps renters achieve homeownership. "I've learned and trained to focus on delivering results for our clients," Hernandez explained. "At PMI Puerto Rico we test our initiatives intensely behind closed doors to ensure we bring value and a product proposition that makes sense to our customers. This strategy is paying off, and as we approach 2019, we are eager to bring new and improved services to property owners, tenants and investors in Puerto Rico."
