Project Green Schools announces that Stephen Ashkin has been added to its Board Of Directors.
Recognized as a leader within the green cleaning movement, Ashkin is a speaker and author with 38 years of experience in the professional cleaning industry. He is also an authority on helping schools, universities, sport facilities, businesses and others implement sustainability practices that improve occupant health and reduce environmental impact.
“We are thrilled to welcome Stephen to our organization and applaud his leadership and ability to get things done when it comes to green cleaning and sustainability,” says Robin Buchanan, executive director of Project Green Schools.
Ashkin is the recipient of a United States Presidential Award for his contribution to the development of the president’s Green Chemistry Awards program, as well as an Excellence Award winner from the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Children’s Health for his work to protect children from environmental threats.
“My objective is to share the lessons-learned working with some of the most successful and influential leaders in business, advocacy and government, and am excited to support their vision for helping our schools and kids. What an amazing legacy program and I am proud to be a part of it. Together we really can make a difference.”
Among his long list of activities and accomplishments, Ashkin is a founding member of the US Green Building Council, past member of their National Board of Directors and primary author of the cleaning credits in the LEED-EBOM Rating System.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Green Sports Alliance where he authored their “Playbook on Greener Cleaning in Sport Facilities” and was previously a member of the Healthy Schools Campaign’s Leadership Council and lead author of their “Quick & Easy Guide to Green Cleaning in Schools.”
