In 1981, a group of housekeeping professionals first joined together to celebrate frontline workers in the cleaning industry. They dedicated a full week in September to recognize international housekeepers and environmental services staff. Several facilities in the industry have designed and implemented awards and activities for their staff such as best attendance, longest employment time, best all-around worker, most cooperative employee, most improved employee, achievement, best supervisor, and the Housekeeper of the Year.
International Housekeepers and Environmental Services Week will take place September 12-18, 2021.
In addition to specific recognition, the departments celebrate with fun challenges where teams from various organizations can compete. This annual Housekeeping Olympics allows team the opportunity to utilize their industry skills in the form of sport through bed making, mop relay, mop toss, buffer pad toss, vacuum race and more.
Participants need only to build a team and prove they are the best in the biz. Teams should include a minimum of three people. Virtual qualifying rounds start September 12-18 and registration for teams is already open.
The top teams chosen after the qualifying rounds will move to the final rounds in Las Vegas, November 17-18.
