SCA, a global hygiene and forest products company and maker of the Tork brand of away-from-home paper products, has been recognized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) as a best practice example in sustainability reporting.
The WBCSD is a CEO-led association of approximately 200 international companies dealing exclusively with business and sustainable development. SCA became a member of the organization in 2011.
The WBCSD recently released its report, Reporting Matters - WBCSD Baseline Report 2013, which aims to share insights into excellence in non-financial reporting practices and offers a pool of inspirational examples to help stimulate the sharing of best practices. For the report, WBCSD conducted a review of its members’ sustainability reports to identify effective reporting practices for the benefit of WBCSD members and the wider corporate community.
SCA is acknowledged for its Sustainability Report 2012 in the Strategy and Drivers section of the report, which recognizes companies for their clearly articulated sustainability strategy to address material, financial, environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities.
Here is the excerpt about SCA’s reporting from the WBCSD’s report:
"SCA's report shows how the company has taken a holistic approach to strategy by linking sustainability to financial performance and value creation for people and nature. SCA clearly articulates its business case for sustainability, which drives cost-efficiency and increases productivity. This is consistently shown throughout the report with performance metrics and targets. Trends and prospects influence the development of SCA's sustainability strategy and are the drivers of short and long-term sustainable growth."
