Cleaning For Health

Emerson announced that The Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI) honored SerVantage Services Group with the 2024 Cleaning for Health Award presented by ProTeam at the recent BSCAI Contracting Success Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. BSCAI represents a worldwide network of more than 1,000 member companies. The Cleaning for Health award honors a BSCAI building service contractor with policies, procedures, and training programs that prioritize the health of building occupants.

SerVantage was recognized by the independent judging panel for their commitment to cleaning for health. “SerVantage has been a leading advocate for environmentally safe cleaning protocols for more than five decades,” says Jeff Stone, national sales manager at ProTeam. “They are committed to social responsibility and sustainable practices that create healthy indoor environments.”

Established in 1966, SerVantage is Western Canada’s leading privately owned cleaning service, maintaining office, healthcare, industrial, retail, and educational facilities throughout Alberta and British Columbia. “We are honored to be the first Canadian company to win this award,” says Hugh Deas-Dawlish, vice president of SerVantage. “Cleaning for health is the heart of our operation and begins with our equipment and supplies. We only use vacuums that are CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) approved and equipped with HEPA filters, dust with microfiber wrap dusters that trap allergens, and use cleaning products that are certified by Environmental Choice (Canada) or Green Seal (US) to eliminate harmful off-gassing.”

As an industry leader in creating effective, healthy, and comprehensive green cleaning programs, SerVantage has achieved honors certification under the ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard Green Building Criteria. Every staff member is thoroughly trained before they begin cleaning for clients. “We want our employees trained on our policies and procedures as well as proper handling of cleaning products,” says Deas-Dawlish. “They undergo extensive training in all areas of cleaning, including WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) procedures.”

“Cleaning just for appearance isn’t enough anymore. Clients seek our services because they want clean, healthy environments that provide improved indoor air quality (IAQ) and help protect employees, tenants, and the public from allergens, asthma triggers, and other contaminants,” says Deas-Dawlish.

Cleaning for Health is defined as a cleaning regimen that helps reduce the levels of allergens and asthma triggers in the indoor environment. The purpose is to create indoor environments where building occupants feel better and can be more productive. ProTeam supports Cleaning for Health by designing vacuums with advanced filtration systems that capture many allergens and asthma triggers, leaving behind healthier indoor air.
