Servicon Systems’ President and CEO Laurie Sewell has been nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2020 Women’s Leadership Awards in the “CEO of the Year” category. The publication honors outstanding female professionals and trailblazers across six areas of expertise, including entrepreneurship, management, and philanthropy.

Recognized as a visionary with regard to “cleaning for health,” employee training and development, sustainability initiatives, and collaborative team building, Sewell is responsible for the growth and strategic direction of Servicon, an environmental services provider specializing in critical environments. The company has been designated an essential business during the pandemic, deploying teams of highly trained technicians and frontline workers in the battle against COVID-19. Sewell has deftly led Servicon throughout this unprecedented time, and has hired more than 200 new employees since mid-March.

“Laurie is deeply committed to protecting, elevating and recognizing our employees, many of whom have emerged as heroes during this crisis, working side-by-side with doctors and nurses to protect patients and all who serve them,” said Servicon Chairman Michael Mahdesian in a company press release. “Her wit and wisdom have been invaluable in creating a supportive, safe, and inclusive workplace. Laurie is so deserving of this honor, and all of us at Servicon extend our warmest congratulations.”

In addition to the awards component, the 2020 Women’s Leadership program, a three-part series that took  place earlier this month, included virtual symposiums designed to engage, inform, educate and inspire, covering topics from leading through change and mentorship to the road to entrepreneurship and navigating today’s work-life balance demands.

Sewell has been featured multiple times on CleanLink.com and its sister publications, both as a story source and as the author of contributed content. In June, she submitted a piece to this website calling for the cleaning industry to stop its spread misinformation. To read that piece, click here.
