Tennant Company has been honored with a 2013 GOOD DESIGN Award. The award was given in the Industrial Design category for its T12 compact rider scrubber.

GOOD DESIGN is organized annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies. The T12 was introduced in 2013 and also received the ISSA Visitors’ Choice Innovation Award in November of the same year.

According to John Ickes, senior [rincipal industrial designer for Tennant Company, the T12 design was the result of "an effort to think outside of traditional cleaning machine design."

“The T12 design emerged from a challenge put forth by our CEO, Chris Killingstad, to start with a clean sheet of paper and think beyond any boundaries," Ickes said. "Taking on the challenge and leaving nothing on the table is how good design is born and how Tennant continues to create innovative products that attempt to exceed expectations of our customers.”

Ickes added Tennant is proud to receive an award alongside well-known companies such as BMW and Apple.

"We strive to build products that match world-class aesthetics with the performance and user experience our customers demand of a Tennant product," Ickes said. "More than just aesthetics, good design begins with empathy for our customers and the challenges they face in their daily cleaning efforts. At the end of the day, our products only have one chance to make a good first impression, and we feel that leveraging good design is a key differentiator in the marketplace.”

The Minneapolis-based company provides equipment for maintaining surfaces in industrial, commercial and outdoor environments; chemical-free and other sustainable cleaning technologies; and coatings for protecting, repairing and upgrading surfaces.
