The Citadel Fights Battle Against Mold

The Citadel, in Charleston, South Carolina, is marshaling its forces to battle an outbreak of mold in cadet barracks buildings, according to an article from the Post and Courier. Swab tests indicated the mold is Cladosporium, a common indoor fungus that is not toxic, but can cause allergic reaction or irritate existing asthma symptoms.

The college has hired extra cleaning contractors to supplement efforts to remove mold from surfaces. The Citadel has placed dehumidifiers in 230 rooms and will soon install 270 more.

The extra efforts are in addition to contractors who regularly clean and maintain air conditioning systems.
