The Ellis Hotel of Atlanta, GA, has been awarded Silver Certification by Green Seal, the nation’s premier environmental organization and the original “Green Seal of Approval.”  The certification was awarded under Green Seal’s GS-33 Standard for Hotels and Lodging Properties.

As a Silver certified property, The Ellis Hotel has met the comprehensive requirements of the standard, which include waste minimization, reuse, and recycling; practicing energy efficiency and conservation; managing fresh water resources and waste water; using environmentally preferable products; instituting an environmental mission and purchasing policy; and working overall to protect human and environmental health for both guests and staff.

The property must also submit to regular monitoring to assure continued compliance.

“The awarding of Silver Certification to The Ellis Hotel marks yet another important step in what has been the transformation of lodging in the U.S.,” says Arthur B. Weissman, Ph.D., President and CEO of Green Seal.  “With Green Seal-certified hotels in 17 states – and now with The Ellis Hotel joining as the fourth certified hotel in Georgia – the opportunity for travelers to choose lodging that protects the health of their guests, as well as that of the environment, is greater than ever.”
