Thomas L. Adams is the Director of Facilities Operations at Portland Public Schools, Portland, Oregon, and now serves on the advisory board of the Healthy Facilities Institute (HFI).
In this role at the schools, since 2010, Adams has instituted and completed a reorganization of 14 union trade shops into 4 shops, instituted ongoing comprehensive skills and leadership training, taught and instilled a customer service mindset in managers and staff, developed written standard operating procedures and preventive maintenance manuals, re-started a preventive maintenance program, written over 70 letters of appreciation to fellow staff, and is responsible for almost 400 employees performing the repair, maintenance, environmental health and safety care and custodial effort for: 8.7 million square feet of buildings; 100 buildings comprising 85 schools; 750 acres of improved grounds; within a $23 million dollar annual budget.
