Since 2005, Cheap Chic Weddings has held a very unique contest, bringing two very different industries together. Partnering with Quilted Northern, the contest challenges prospective clothing designers to create wedding gowns using only toilet tissue, tape and/or glue, needle and thread and/or a sewing machine.
Just in time for wedding season, the 2018 contest is off and running. A call for entries went out on March 13, and entry forms are due no later than May 8. The toilet paper wedding dresses and headpieces will first be judged using the photos supplied. Top entries will move on to round two, requiring creators to ship the final product to the contest for in-person judging.
Once whittled down to the Top 10 finalists, those entrants will be invited to New York City for a finale runway show on June 20, 2018, where the Grand Prize of $10,000 will be awarded. Second and Third place dresses will be awarded $5,000 and $2,500, respectively.
Before the finale, the Top 10 will also be featured on a voting page where a fan favorite will be selected.
