About a month ago, custodians — in conjunction with the AFSCME union — filed grievances against the contract cleaning company, UNICCO, at Pennsylvania-based West Chester University. According to The Quad, not only have no improvements been made as a result of initial complaints, custodial crews report that it has only gotten worse.
Problems on campus include the use of unsafe chemicals in residence halls and reduction of staff. According to reports, the University is also entertaining bids to replace AFSCME workers, a direct violation to signed agreements.
According to reports, workers are preparing to picket in hopes that it will bring recognition to their request.
