Iowa Passes Green Cleaning Legislation

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver signed House File 823 requiring public schools, community colleges, institutions under control of the state board, and state agencies to comply with a green cleaning and maintenance policy. The state's Department of Administrative Services will provide information on what environmentally preferable products can be used. Facilities must conduct an evaluation and assessment regarding the implementation of a green cleaning program and start using green products by July 12, 2010. However, departments can deplete existing first and then institute the new requirements when procuring products for the following year.
