The United Group (TUG) held its national conference in April, when nearly 715 members and suppliers convened for three days of networking and education in San Diego, California.
The week began with new member orientation and the annual stockholder’s meeting, followed by jan/san, packaging and foodservice segment meetings. The day ended with a welcome reception.
After an informative breakfast on the second day, members slipped away to tabletop meetings and a tour of the city. This year, TUG members were encouraged to use the buying group’s proprietary conference scheduling software program to request, schedule and help organize one-on-one meetings.
Despite a conflict with the NCAA Championship final, TUG also held its award’s banquet recognizing several of its members for year-over-year growth and number of suppliers or members supported.
The top honors went to Polyair, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for Supplier of the Year, and Mooney-General Paper Company, Hillside, New Jersey, for Member of the Year.
On the last day of the conference, buying group members enjoyed a beautiful evening of tours, dinner and live music aboard the USS Midway. At the invitation of TUG President, Tobie McKown, nearly 50 active-duty U.S. Navy personnel joined the gathering.
“Once again, TUG’s conference received rave reviews from members and suppliers who find it invaluable for networking and strengthening relationships within the group,” an announcement stated. “The United Group promotes these strong relationships between members and suppliers for increased sales and enhanced profitability for all.”
