Carpet Cleaning Seminars Please Industry Attendees
Thomas Cochran, division president of Majestic Carpet Solutions, Reading, Pa., recently gave two separate carpet training seminars for Wholesale Paper, Clearfield, Pa., and Holt Paper, Baltimore.

Majestic gives about 50 to 60 annual seminars, according to Cochran. The seminars are hosted by distributors who invite their customers.

In the 3-to 5-hour seminar, Cochran usually speaks to 100 to 500 attendees at a time. “First we teach them about carpet, including carpet fibers and backing, then we train them on cleaning methods, such as extraction or bonnet buffing,” he says.

Proper handling of machinery, discussion of problems like spotting and cleaning solutions, and hands-on training are also part of the presentation.

ISSA/Janitor University Presents a Trainers-Only Seminar
International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA), Lincolnwood, Ill., in conjunction with Janitor University, will co-sponsor a training course at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Orlando.

John Walker will present the program, “The Official Cleaning Industry Train the Trainer.” Walker is the principal and founder of ManageMen Inc., a Salt Lake City consulting and public relations firm that specializes in the cleaning industry. In 1993, he founded Janitor University, a hands-on cleaning management training program.

The seminar will be held July 30-31 and will focus on vital steps in the training process including presentation strategies, group involvement, role-playing, case studies and more.

June Etter, co-founder of Ryter Corp., Madelia, Minn., recently passed away. June and her husband, Kenneth Etter founded the Ryter Corp., in 1957. Ryter is a manufacturer of pet and sanitation products.

The DeBolt Co., Inc., Coral Springs, Fla., has named Gabriel Waldman as a regional representative with its sales force. He will cover southeast Florida.

Norshel Industries Inc., Croydon, Pa., recently named Jerry Engleson purchasing agent and the company has promoted Gerald Buchman to head of inventory control. Tom Knestout remains general manager of Quantum Distribution Inc., a recently acquired stocking branch, and Frank Mancaruso and George Mannion are in charge of sales and inventory control functions.

The Scotts Co., Marysville, Ohio, recently announced that its board of directors plans to elect James Hagedorn as president and chief executive officer at its upcoming meeting. Hagedorn has served as president and chief operating officer since April 2000.

Prophet 21 Inc., Yardley, Pa., a provider of enterprise solutions for distributors, recently announced that Eric Holloway, former president and CEO of Holloway Bros. Tools, Wilmington, Del., has been appointed account executive for Trading Partner Connect. Trading Partner Connect is an Internet trading network for distributors and their suppliers.

CPAC Inc., Leicester, N.Y., has appointed Read McNamara as president of its Fuller Brands business segment. McNamara has more than 25 years of experience in global business development, marketing and executive management.

Casey Engineered Maintenance Inc., Foxboro, Mass., recently named John Wilcox president of the company. Wilcox has been with the company since 1974.

Omnova Solutions Inc., Fairlawn, Ohio, recently promoted Larry Dray to vice president of strategic sourcing. Dray will be responsible for all raw material purchasing for the company, as well as supply and service contracts.

Waxie Sanitary Supply, San Diego, recently appointed Kathleen Silberman as human resources director. Silberman comes to Waxie with more than 14 years of experience in the human resources field.

The Hoover Co., North Canton, Ohio, has reassigned two directors: Randall Lemke is now director of sales administration and Gary Johns is product director for extractors and other specialty products.

Spartan Chemical Co., Inc., Maumee, Ohio, an international manufacturer of specialty chemical maintenance products, recently celebrated its 45th anniversary.

Distributor Partners of America (DPA), a member-owned group headquartered in Naples, Fla., will co-sponsor with the Katy Maintenance Group a DPA/Katy Cruise Program for 2001 for all partner members. Qualifiers can win a 3 night/4 day or 6 night/7 day cruise, which departs from either Tampa or Miami, Fla.

A Manufacturer’s Representative for Windsor Commercial Products presented David Newcomer, president of Quaker City Paper, York, Pa., a 2000 distributor award for outstanding performing partners. Quaker City sells floor maintenance equipment in addition to other products.

AFFLINK, headquartered in Tuscaloosa, Ala., recently welcomed three new distributors: A-1 Chemical, Las Vegas; A-1 Chemical, Sparks, Nev.; and Majestic Packaging, Denver.

Callico Distributors, Taunton, Mass., a redistributor of paper, plastics, foodservice disposables and janitorial supplies, recently offered a free training seminar series to its customers. The seminar, “Partners in Growth,” provided insightful sales tips.

Quaker City Paper Co., York, Pa., recently announced the winners of Quaker’s 2000 salesperson of the year contest. Kathie Rouco was this year’s first-place winner.

Spartan Chemical Co., Inc., Maumee, Ohio, recently hosted seminars for building service contractors. The guest speaker, John Walker, president of ManageMen, offered attendees practical experience as a cleaning industry trainer.

Pacific Steamex, Muskegon, Mich., a manufacturer of commercial floor care equipment, has named Mel Dean & Associates, Raleigh, N.C., as its manufacturer’s representative of the year and has named Likarr Inc., Foxboro, Mass., as its distributor of the year.

Tennant Commercial, Holland, Mich., has named Wesclean Inc., Edmonton, Canada, as its 2000 distributor of the year in recognition for its outstanding sales and service. Wesclean has been an exclusive dealer of the Tennant brand since 1999.

Xynyth, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based manufacturer of organic icemelt, recently celebrated its 15th year in business. The company expanded marketing operations from British Columbia and Alberta to Saskatchewan in 1990 and thereafter throughout western Canada. Now Xynth serves all of Canada, sells its products in the United States and has broadened its product line.
