OBITUARY

John “Jack” F. Woodhouse Jr., former president of Standard Paper Sales Co., Asheville, N.C., and ISSA president passed away June 21.

 

Woodhouse became president of Standard Paper in 1962 and was in that position for nearly 30 years. He had recently served as the company’s chairman of the board up until his death.

Woodhouse was also involved in the ISSA, serving as district director, secretary, vice president, president in 1994 and immediate past president/international director in 1995.

Technical Concepts, Mundelein, Ill., was named Supplier of the Year at the 2008 Distributor Partners of America (DPA) Conference.

Atlanta-based Zep Inc., has been named the official cleaning products supplier of the Atlanta Braves.

Cascades Tissue Group, Waterford, N.Y., announced an agreement to offset all the electricity used to manufacture its North River commercial towel and tissue products with wind-generated energy. The company is the first EPA Green Power Partner to use clean, renewable, emission-free wind energy in the manufacturing process.

The O’Dell Corp., Ware Shoals, S.C., completed the Cleaning Industry Climate Initiative (CICI) audit, earning Green Level certification. The CICI was designed to help jan/san industry members reduce the impact on the environment by day-to-day operations.

The Ethisphere Institute named SCA Tissue North America, Philadelphia, to the 2008 World’s Most Ethical Companies list. The institute reviewed more than 5,000 companies and recognized 95.

GOJO Industries, Akron, Ohio, unveiled the Workplace Wellness Implementation Support Program. The program helps put a hand hygiene program into practice and includes a communications tool kit that allows managers to introduce and oversee the program.

Polymer Group, Inc., Charlotte, N.C., plans to close its Landisville, N.J., plant by the end of the third quarter in 2008.


PEOPLE

HOST/ Racine Industries Inc., Racine, Wis., named Quin Rench chairman of the company. Fritz Rench has resumed his duties as CEO after a 10-year absence and Geoff Rench was appointed to COO within the company.

 

Renae Hesselink has been named vice president of sustainability for Nichols, Muskegon, Mich. The company also hired Kelly Suchecki as manager of customer service and market development, Hal Grossman as director of sales and Will Kelderhouse as controller.

 

Robbie Plett has been hired as national sales manager of the janitorial division for Van Dijk Carpet Inc., Cartersville, Ga.

 

Joseph Russo and Fred Albrecht have been appointed to the Senior Leadership Team of SCA Tissue North America, Philadelphia.

 

The von Drehle Corp., Hickory, N.C., promoted Kristie Foster to assistant controller. Foster had previously served as accounting coordinator and has been with the company since 1999.

 

Suzanne Sears, the vice president of global market development for Atlanta-based Kimberly-Clark Professional won the Business Marketing Association’s W.A. Marsteller Award. The award is given to a marketing executive who demonstrates consistent support and dedication to the business-to-business marketing and marketing communications aspect of their company.

 

Tom Rochenski was appointed national account manager and product specialist for instruments and airmovers for Dri-Eaz Products, Burlington, Wash. He will be responsible for sales to the company’s distributors in the northeastern United States and as a product specialist. He will also support sales throughout North America for airmovers and moisture detection instruments.

 

Atlas Paper Mills, Miami, named Roberto Gonzalez vice president of manufacturing. He was previously vice president of operations for the company.

 

Nancy Terrell was hired by Bissell Homecare Inc., Grand Rapids, Mich., as vice president of marketing.

 

The Malish Corp., Willoughby, Ohio, named Fred Lombardi vice president of sales and marketing.

 

Mark Collins has been named regional manager for Spartan Chemical Co., Inc., Maumee, Ohio. He will be responsible for the Buffalo, N.Y., region and brings over 30 years of experience to the position.

 

Sartomer Co., Exton, Penn., named Marcel de Wolf CEO. He will be responsible for general management of Sartomer and will focus on the company’s global expansion.


MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS

JanPak Inc., Davidson, N.C., acquired Pro Star Janitorial, Port Arthur, Texas.

Miami-based DadePaper has acquired Houston Paper and Janitorial Supply Inc., and Emerald Coast Janitorial and Paper Inc., Dothan, Ala. Charlie Northcutt, president of Houston Paper and Janitorial Supply Inc. and Emerald Coast Janitorial and Paper Inc., will remain with the company along with a majority of the staff.

Corporate Express, Amsterdam, Netherlands, agreed to a takeover offer from Staples Inc. Staples valued the acquisition at $4.8 billion. The acquisition is subject to a Corporate Express shareholder vote.
