SCA Tissue Featured in Public Television Pilot
SCA Tissues South Glens Falls, N.Y., facility was recently the site for the filming of a new Public Broadcasting System (PBS) pilot, Smart Living. The half hour show focuses on consumers making wise choices by choosing environmentally friendly products. The mills recycling and paper manufacturing processes are highlighted by program host Liz Solar, who takes viewers through the entire process of how recyclable waste paper eventually becomes a roll of paper.
ln two other segments also filmed at the same facility, the program addresses consumer buying power and value-based purchasing. Spot Video will present the finished pilot to WSBE in Providence, R.I., who will introduce the program to 375 independent PBS stations nationwide. If accepted, Smart Living will air on the Fall 2002 PBS schedule.
IICRC Offers Mold Remediation Certification
The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is offering two new certifications: Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT) and Applied Microbial Remediation Specialist (AMRS). The new courses teach mold and sewage remediation techniques in property management, property restoration, indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and/or other related fields.
The new certification categories address the timely problem of how to remove mold and sewage effectively, says Lee Zimmerman, IICRC president. Applications for AMRT approved-instructor status may now be obtained from IICRC headquarters through www.iicrc.org, and some approved schools are already offering AMRT certification.
eCommerce Industries (ECI2), Vienna, Va., has announced that it has reached an agreement with The United Group (TUG), Monroe, La. Under the new agreement, ECI2 will provide business system software and e-commerce technology to TUG and its members, enabling them to establish efficient internal processes and build new sales channels on the Internet.
Basic Maintenance Supply Inc., Philadelphia, has been named Century 400 Dealer of the Year for 2001. The award is presented by Century 400, Chandler, Ariz., to the distributor that demonstrates outstanding sales and service during the year.
Steamin Demon Sales Co., Granville, Ohio, has announced that C&A Floorcoverings, Dalton, Ga., has evaluated and added Steamin Demon II to its Approved Equipment List, for use on all Powerbond Products. Steamin Demon II is a high-flow, high-impact portable carpet extractor.
SpillTech, Alpharetta, Ga., has announced that Complete Environmental Products (CEP) is no longer an authorized distributor of SpillTech products. Effective immediately, SpillTech will sell SpillTech brand products directly to its distributors in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, California and New Mexico.
Athea Laboratories, Milwaukee, has announced the hiring of TPC Enterprises of Contoocook, N.H., as a new sales representative group. The group will assume control of sales for Athea in New England.
Obituaries
Joseph W. Langer, vice president of product development for Chase Products, Maywood, Ill., passed away April 10 after a battle with cancer. Langer, 73, was nationally recognized as a product development chemist and received numerous awards for consumer aerosol product innovations. He recently completed complex formulations for aerosol products in order to meet California Air Resources Quality Standards.
Jean Stahler, general manager for Viking Injector, Nesquehoning, Pa., passed away on April 1 after a year-long battle with cancer. Stahler joined Viking in 1978 and worked her way up the ranks to general manager.

CPAC Inc., Leicester, N.Y., recently named G. Robert Gey as president of its subsidiary, Fuller Brush, Great Bend, Kan. He most recently served as president of a service equipment subsidiary of Pentair Inc., St. Paul, Minn.
Clark National Inc., Elk Grove Village, Ill., a foodservice and packaging distributor, has announced that it has added Craig Cunningham as corporate vice president of operations.
Bunzl Distribution, St. Louis, has announced the promotion of Randy Hogan to regional redistribution sales manager for the southeast region based in Atlanta. Hogan has been regional procurement manager for the southeast region since 1999.
National Chemical Laboratories, Philadelphia, has announced the appointment of Jack Carr as regional sales representative. Carr will be responsible for distributor training and development in the Florida.
Pioneer Eclipse, Sparta, N.C., has appointed Marty Baldwin to the position of institutional specialist. Baldwin previously served as regional manager in the north eastern region. In addition, the company has added several new members to its sales team: Kyle Byrd is regional manager for Texas and Oklahoma; Glenn West is regional manager for the south central region; Matt Morris is regional manager for northern California and northern Nevada; Neil Fowler is regional manager for Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina; and Steve Hart is the new regional manager for the north eastern region.
